Description

Tofu Shish Taouk is a flavorful and healthy alternative to traditional shish taouk, using marinated tofu and vegetables.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 650 grams Extra firm tofu (1 block)
  • ½ large Onion peeled and quartered
  • ½ large Bell pepper (capsicum) cut into 2.5cm (1″ pieces)
  • 6 cloves Garlic peeled and crushed
  • 2.5 cm Ginger peeled and crushed
  • 1 cup Dairy free plain yogurt
  • 2 medium Lemons juiced
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil + extra for brushing grill/bbq/pan
  • 1 teaspoon Sumac heaping
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Paprika
  • ½ teaspoon Ground White pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste heaping
  • ½ tablespoon Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Soak the skewers in boiling water and set aside.
  2. Press the block of extra firm tofu for at least 30-60 minutes and cut into 2.5cm (1 inch) cubes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, mix all marinade ingredients and taste for strength.
  4. Add tofu cubes, capsicum, and onion to the marinade and stir to coat.
  5. Cover and let it sit in the fridge for at least an hour.
  6. Drain skewers and assemble with tofu, onion, and capsicum.
  7. If grilling, heat the grill, brush oil, and grill skewers for about 15 minutes, turning until charred.
  8. If air frying, place marinated tofu in the air fryer tray and air fry for 15 minutes, turning halfway.
  9. If oven baking, place skewers on a lined tray and bake at 200C (400F) for 20-25 minutes, turning midway.
  10. Serve immediately.
