Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. Spread the bread cubes evenly in the dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the mixture evenly over the bread, gently pressing the bread down so it absorbs the liquid.
  5. Cover the dish and refrigerate overnight for at least 8 hours.
  6. The next morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with the brown sugar.
  8. Drizzle this mixture evenly over the casserole.
  9. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is fully set.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving.
