Description

Homemade Crescent Rolls are soft, buttery, and perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup (118 ml) warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 2 Tbsp yeast (quick-rise or instant dry yeast)
  • 6 Tbsp (85 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ⅓ cup (68 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (237 ml) warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 5 to 5 ½ cups (600660 g) all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
  • 2 Tbsp (29 g) butter, melted (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, stir the yeast into the warm water until dissolved. Set aside.
  2. In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth.
  3. Add eggs and mix well, scraping down the bowl as needed.
  4. Add warm milk, salt, and the yeast mixture. Mix until combined.
  5. Add 5 cups of flour and mix on low speed until just combined. Switch to the dough hook.
  6. Knead on medium speed for about 5 minutes, adding up to ½ cup additional flour (1 Tbsp at a time) if needed. Dough should be soft and slightly sticky but pull away from the sides.
  7. Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 30–45 minutes, until doubled in size.
  8. Punch down dough and divide into two equal portions. Shape each into a ball.
  9. Roll each ball into a 14-inch circle and cut into 12 wedges using a pizza cutter.
  10. Roll each wedge from the wide end to the tip, forming crescent shapes.
  11. Place rolls tip-side down on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes, until doubled.
  12. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  13. Bake for 15–20 minutes, until golden brown. Internal temperature should reach 190–200°F (88–93°C).
  14. Brush hot rolls with melted butter and serve warm.

Notes

  • Dough should remain soft; avoid adding too much flour.
  • These rolls are best served warm and fresh from the oven.
  • Recipe makes just under 3 lbs of dough (about 24 crescent rolls).
  • To reheat: microwave individual rolls for 5–10 seconds or warm in foil at 350°F for 5–7 minutes.
