Description
Homemade Crescent Rolls are soft, buttery, and perfect for any meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- ½ cup (118 ml) warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
- 2 Tbsp yeast (quick-rise or instant dry yeast)
- 6 Tbsp (85 g) unsalted butter, softened
- ⅓ cup (68 g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (237 ml) warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
- 2 tsp salt
- 5 to 5 ½ cups (600–660 g) all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
- 2 Tbsp (29 g) butter, melted (for brushing)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, stir the yeast into the warm water until dissolved. Set aside.
- In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth.
- Add eggs and mix well, scraping down the bowl as needed.
- Add warm milk, salt, and the yeast mixture. Mix until combined.
- Add 5 cups of flour and mix on low speed until just combined. Switch to the dough hook.
- Knead on medium speed for about 5 minutes, adding up to ½ cup additional flour (1 Tbsp at a time) if needed. Dough should be soft and slightly sticky but pull away from the sides.
- Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 30–45 minutes, until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough and divide into two equal portions. Shape each into a ball.
- Roll each ball into a 14-inch circle and cut into 12 wedges using a pizza cutter.
- Roll each wedge from the wide end to the tip, forming crescent shapes.
- Place rolls tip-side down on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes, until doubled.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 15–20 minutes, until golden brown. Internal temperature should reach 190–200°F (88–93°C).
- Brush hot rolls with melted butter and serve warm.
Notes
- Dough should remain soft; avoid adding too much flour.
- These rolls are best served warm and fresh from the oven.
- Recipe makes just under 3 lbs of dough (about 24 crescent rolls).
- To reheat: microwave individual rolls for 5–10 seconds or warm in foil at 350°F for 5–7 minutes.
