Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup green food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, cream together the butter and sugar.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix well.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.
  6. Divide the dough into two portions. Color one with red food coloring and the other with green food coloring.
  7. Roll each dough into a rectangle on parchment paper.
  8. Layer the green dough on top of the red dough and roll tightly.
  9. Chill the log in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  10. Slice the log into 1/4 inch thick rounds and place on a baking sheet.
  11. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  12. Let cool before serving.
