Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Oil for frying
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 24 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the sourdough starter, sugar, milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently until smooth.
  5. Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick and cut out donut shapes.
  6. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry the donuts in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  8. Remove the donuts and drain on paper towels.
  9. In a bowl, mix powdered sugar with milk to create a glaze.
  10. Dunk the warm donuts in the glaze and let them set on a wire rack.
