Description

A classic breakfast dish made with brioche bread soaked in a cinnamon-vanilla egg mixture and cooked until golden.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
  • Pinch of salt
  • 8 slices brioche bread
  • Unsalted butter, for cooking
  • Maple syrup, powdered sugar, and berries for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. If using an electric griddle, preheat to 350°F.
  2. In a shallow dish or pie plate, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, ½ of the cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  3. Dip each slice of brioche into the egg mixture, coating both sides.
  4. After dipping half of the slices, add the remaining cinnamon to the egg mixture and whisk again.
  5. Melt a little butter on the hot griddle or in a large skillet over medium heat.
  6. Cook the French toast for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
  7. Serve warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, and fresh berries if desired.

Notes

  • Keep Warm: Preheat oven to 200°F. Place cooked French toast on a wire rack set over a baking sheet and keep warm in the oven for up to 30 minutes.
  • Storage: Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for 3–4 days. Freeze by placing slices in a single layer on a baking sheet until solid, then transfer to a freezer bag for up to 2 months. Reheat in the oven or toaster for best texture, or microwave for a softer result.
