Ingredients

- 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 6 cups chicken broth
- 2 cups okra, sliced
- 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooked rice for serving
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Stir in flour and cook, stirring constantly, until roux is dark brown.
- Add onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic. Cook until softened.
- Pour in chicken broth and bring to a boil.
- Stir in sausage and okra. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
- Add shrimp and Cajun seasoning. Cook until shrimp are pink.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve over cooked rice.
Notes
- Adjust spice level by adding more or less Cajun seasoning.
- Use fresh or frozen shrimp.
- For a thicker gumbo, allow to simmer longer.
