Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, cut 1/2 cup butter into 1 cup flour.
  3. Stir in 2 tablespoons of water to form a dough.
  4. Divide the dough in half.
  5. Pat each half into a 12×3 inch rectangle on an ungreased baking sheet.
  6. In a saucepan, bring 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup of butter to a boil.
  7. Remove from heat and quickly stir in 1 cup of flour and almond extract until the mixture forms a ball.
  8. Beat in the eggs one at a time, until smooth and shiny.
  9. Spread the egg mixture evenly over the dough rectangles.
  10. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
  11. Allow to cool completely.
  12. In a small bowl, whisk together confectioners’ sugar, milk, and almond extract to form a glaze.
  13. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled puffs and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
