Description
Crispy Sweet Chilli Chicken is a flavorful dish with a crunchy coating and a sweet, tangy sauce.

- 600 g boneless, skinless chicken breast or thigh, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 tsp sweet paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp sea salt flakes
- ½ tsp freshly cracked black pepper
- 1 egg
- ½ cup cornflour (cornstarch)
- Oil, for frying
- 1 tsp freshly minced garlic
- 1 tsp freshly minced ginger
- ½ cup sweet chilli sauce
- ¼ cup tamari or all-purpose soy sauce
- ¼ cup rice wine vinegar or other vinegar
- Steamed rice, for serving
- 1 spring onion, finely sliced
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
Instructions
- Place the chicken in a large bowl with sweet paprika, garlic powder, salt, pepper, egg, and cornflour. Mix well.
- Combine sauce ingredients in a medium bowl and set aside.
- Heat oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook chicken for 5–6 minutes until golden. Drain on paper towel.
- Wipe the pan clean and return it to medium-low heat. Add the sauce and stir for 2–3 minutes until bubbling.
- Add the chicken back to the pan and coat in the sauce.
- Serve chicken on steamed rice, topped with spring onion and sesame seeds.
Notes
- The recipe uses high smoke-point oil for a crispy coating.
- For olive oil, use 4 tablespoons for a denser coating.
- Best eaten immediately, but chicken can be prepped ahead.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
