Description

Creamy Shrimp Newburg is a rich and flavorful dish featuring shrimp in a creamy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon white pepper
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ¼ cup chicken or vegetable broth

Instructions

  1. Rinse shrimp and pat dry. Set aside.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons butter.
  3. Whisk in flour, paprika, salt, and white pepper until a smooth paste forms.
  4. Gradually add milk and cream, whisking constantly until smooth and thick.
  5. Pour in the broth and whisk until fully incorporated. Cook until the sauce is thick and gently bubbling.
  6. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally.
  7. In a separate pan, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons butter. Sauté shrimp for about 1 minute per side until lightly pink.
  8. Add shrimp and melted butter to the sauce. Stir gently and cook 2–3 minutes, until shrimp are fully cooked.
  9. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the shrimp; they should be tender and just opaque.
  • Broth adds depth of flavor without overpowering the creamy sauce.
