Description
Classic Patty Melt Recipe
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 slices rye bread
- 6 tbsp butter, softened
- 1 lb ground beef
- ¾ tsp ground black pepper
- ½ tsp sea salt
- ¼ tsp onion powder
- 3 tbsp mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp crispy beef bacon bits (or finely chopped cooked beef)
- 1 tsp sweet relish
- 1 tsp white sugar
- 6 slices cheddar cheese
- 6 slices provolone cheese
Instructions
- Butter one side of each slice of rye bread and set aside.
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, black pepper, salt, and onion powder. Mix gently until evenly seasoned.
- Shape the beef into 3 patties sized to fit the bread.
- Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties 2–3 minutes per side, then reduce heat to low and cook about 5 more minutes, until fully cooked through.
- While patties cook, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, beef bacon bits, relish, and sugar in a small bowl. Set aside.
- Heat a second skillet over medium-low heat. Place one slice of bread butter-side down.
- Top with 2 slices cheddar cheese, one beef patty, and 2 slices provolone cheese.
- Spread sauce on the unbuttered side of another bread slice and place it sauce-side down on top.
- Cook 2–3 minutes per side until bread is golden and cheese is melted.
- Repeat with remaining ingredients. Serve hot.
Notes
- Use gentle heat when grilling the sandwich to avoid burning the bread.
- You can substitute rye with sourdough or sandwich bread if desired.
- Let patties rest briefly for juicier texture.
