Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, melted butter, salt, eggs, and the yeast mixture.
  3. Add 2 cups of flour and mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually add more flour until a soft dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  7. Punch down the dough and roll it out to 1/2 inch thickness.
  8. Cut out doughnuts using a doughnut cutter and place them on a floured baking sheet.
  9. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Heat oil in a deep fryer to 375°F and fry the doughnuts until golden brown, about 1 minute per side.
  11. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  12. For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  13. Dip the warm doughnuts in the glaze and let them set on a wire rack.
