- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (such as rosemary or thyme), chopped
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped herbs.
- Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk.
- Mix until a soft dough forms, then turn it out onto a floured surface.
- Knead gently for about 1 minute, then shape into a round loaf.
- Place the loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cut a deep cross into the top of the loaf.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- For a spicier flavor, add some crushed red pepper flakes.
- This bread is best served warm with butter.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
