Description
A moist and flavorful cake infused with the warm spice of cardamom.
Ingredients
Scale
- 200 g all-purpose flour (about 1½ cups)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1½ teaspoons ground cardamom
- 150 g unsalted butter, softened (about ¾ cup)
- 200 g granulated sugar (about 1 cup)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 120 ml whole milk (about ½ cup)
- ¼ cup sour cream (optional)
- 2 tablespoons pearl sugar (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and line a 23 cm (9-inch) round cake pan or an 8×8-inch square pan with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and ground cardamom.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar for 3–4 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
- Add the dry ingredients gradually, alternating with the milk, mixing just until combined. Stir in the sour cream if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle with pearl sugar if desired.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Use fresh cardamom for the best flavor.
